This is what makes Mama happy

You see that up there? That is what makes Mama happy.

I have been wanting a FoodSaver for as long as I can remember. I even have one on my Amazon wish list.
I have a little MealSaver, but nothing like that big boy up there. The MealSaver needs those ridiculously expensive zipper bags with the holes in them to vacuum out the air. Only temporarily, mind you.
How do I know? Look in my freezer and see my frosty fresh corn from last summer, covered in ice crystals cause those stupid bags with a vacuum hole failed.
Want me to go insane and start killing people? Just ask me about my corn. My preshuuusss corn.
My dang freezer burned corn.
Where was I?
Ok, back to my new best friend. That baby right there is gonna keep my preshuuusss corn safe now.
And I can use the jar sealer accessory to seal up my preshuuusss dehydrated onions too.

And the best part of it all? It was $11.99 from Goodwill.
That's what makes Mama happy.

    1. Thanks Rina! So far, so good. I have been sealing up all kinds of goodies this weekend and it's been doing a great job.

  2. I did a long post on my FOOD SAVER last month in regards to prepping. I've had a food saver over 10 years. (not the same one) and I LOVE making too much food, sealing the air out and freezing it. Especially SOUP!! (first you have to freeze the soup, THEN suck the air out, or you'll have soup IN your food saver!) lol Not fun. FYI, I sealed up some important papers, and some coins. The papers are ROCK HARD but in pristine condition and the coins didn't tarnish.

    1. I made a huge pot of chicken stock this weekend, specifically to freeze in the bags.
I told JW about the papers and coins, and now I think he's going to steal my Food Saver for himself!

  3. We love our Foodsaver also. Have had 3 of them over the course of about 15 years because my husband always thinks the newest one is the best. We use it all the time. I have vacuum sealed matches and toilet paper to put in our survival backpacks in the car. Also, important papers.
As far as corn goes, we just leave it in the husks and put it in a large black garbage bag and put it in the freezer. Whenever we want fresh corn, just toss the corn (still in the husks) on the BBQ or in the over and allow the husks to steam the kernels to tender goodness. We eat "fresh" corn on the cob all year.

    1. I luuurve corn. LOL
But I hate it on the cob. Don't know why.
Guess I'm just weird like that!

  4. I love my foodsaver- even though you have to take the cost of vacuum bags into account, MLW and I save a bundle on buying food (esp meat) in family packs and zipping the extra. We got ours as a wedding gift, easily the most used gift we got that day.
